Functional Jaw Assessment
We assess jaw movement, bite contacts, facial symmetry, TMJ signs, muscle tension, and airway-related patterns.
SERVICE
Non-surgical support for jaw position, bite balance, and facial symmetry.
Book ConsultationWhat Is It
Jaw Functional Orthopaedics, or JFO, focuses on how the upper and lower jaws relate to each other and how that relationship affects bite, muscles, joints, airway, and facial balance. It is a non-surgical approach that works with growth and function whenever possible.
For children, JFO may guide developing jaws toward a healthier relationship. For adults, it can support improved jaw position, reduce functional strain, and clarify how bite, muscles, and TMJ symptoms are connected.
Treatment may include functional appliances, bite support, exercises, and coordination with myofunctional therapy or other care when needed.
Who Is It For
Children with developing bite imbalance, teenagers with jaw discrepancy, and adults with TMJ discomfort, bite instability, facial asymmetry, jaw tension, clicking, limited opening, or symptoms that worsen with chewing or clenching.
How It Works
Every plan is tailored to the patient’s anatomy, function, and goals.
We assess jaw movement, bite contacts, facial symmetry, TMJ signs, muscle tension, and airway-related patterns.
The treatment plan identifies whether appliances, exercises, bite support, or staged care are appropriate.
Functional appliances or bite strategies are introduced gradually with close comfort and movement checks.
We monitor symptom change, bite balance, jaw movement, and the need for ongoing support or referral.

FAQ
No. JFO is a non-surgical functional and orthopaedic approach. Surgical referral is considered only when findings require it.
It can help when symptoms are linked to jaw position, bite instability, or muscle overuse. Each case needs assessment.
Growth gives more opportunity, but adults may still benefit from functional jaw support and bite strategies.
Braces mainly move teeth. JFO focuses on jaw relationship, function, and orthopaedic guidance.
In children, guiding growth can influence facial balance. In adults, changes are usually functional and postural rather than growth-based.
